MONTEGRAPPA STANLEY KUBRICK: THE SHINING L.E. – WRITING HOLDS THE KEY

Montegrappa is proud to announce the debut of a new collector series dedicated to one of cinema’s most visionary masters.

The journey begins with Stanley Kubrick: The Shining L.E., the opening chapter of a trilogy honouring the genius of Stanley Kubrick, culminating in 2028, the centenary of his birth.
Released in 1980, The Shining reshaped modern horror by revealing that the most terrifying places to inhabit are those within the human mind. The endless corridors of the Overlook Hotel became an architecture of consciousness, where time loops and madness wait beyond a single forbidden door: Room 237.

That vision now takes tangible form in a Limited Edition writing instrument conceived for collectors of cinema, design, and fine craftsmanship.
Produced in 237 fountain pens and 237 rollerballs, Stanley Kubrick: The Shining L.E. is crafted from sterling silver, mahogany wood and solid acrylic resin, finished in a deep red tone, enriched with precious vermeil details. The contrast of materials echoes the film’s defining tension, translating Kubrick’s visual language into a tactile experience.

Beneath the Ambigram, an exclusive rotating cap top disc in vermeil recalls the door’s peephole lid; as it turns, the twins emerge and vanish within a simulated optical assembly in sterling silver joined by their eerie invitation, “Come play with us,” engraved along the vermeil bezel. Encircling the cap, the Overlook labyrinth is engraved as an architectural motif, accompanied by the official THE SHINING logo–sealing the edition’s authentic cinematic lineage. The clip, micro-cast in vermeil, reproduces the key to Room 237, complete with its red acrylic tag.

Along the fountain pen’s barrel–designed to open in a direct allusion to one of the film’s most unforgettable visions–red ink flows into the technological heart of the edition: the Free Drop Reservoir. The 18K gold nib is engraved with Jack Torrance holding the axe–the instant reason collapses, and the narrative crosses its irreversible line.

Each writing instrument is presented in a collector display case that recreates, in miniature, the Torrance family’s apartment door, bearing the ambivalent inscription REDRUM–its mirrored reflection spelling MURDER–a final threshold before writing begins.
